Gorgias review
Ecommerce help desk where order data and refunds live inside the conversation, with an AI agent priced per resolution.
The strongest help desk for Shopify brands because store actions happen inside the ticket, though ticket-metered billing punishes exactly the months support volume spikes.
Pros
- Order, subscription and customer history render inside the ticket, and refunds, cancellations and address edits are executed without leaving it.
- Agent seats are effectively unlimited on paid tiers because billing follows ticket volume, so seasonal staffing does not change the price.
- The AI agent handles order status, returns and pre-sale questions, and escalates with the whole conversation intact.
- One inbox covers email, live chat, SMS, WhatsApp, and Instagram and Facebook comments and DMs.
- Revenue attribution ties individual conversations to orders, which makes a support team's contribution measurable.
Cons
- Ticket allowances are metered and overages bill per ticket, so a shipping delay or product recall inflates the invoice in the worst possible month.
- AI resolutions are charged on top of the ticket that triggered them, so automation cuts headcount rather than the software line.
- It is built around a storefront; a business without ecommerce order data loses most of what justifies the price over a general help desk.

What Gorgias actually does
Gorgias is a help desk built specifically for online stores. The distinguishing feature is not the inbox but what sits inside each ticket: the customer's order history, subscription status, previous conversations and lifetime value are rendered next to the message, and the actions a shopper usually asks for, such as refunding an order, cancelling it, changing a shipping address or issuing a discount, are executed from that same panel. An agent never has to open the storefront admin in a second tab, which is where most of the time in ecommerce support actually goes.
The second half of the product is an AI agent that answers on its own. It handles the repetitive intents that dominate store support, primarily order status, returns, exchanges and pre-sale product questions, and it takes real actions rather than only replying. When it cannot finish the job it hands the conversation to a human with the full history attached. Channels are unified: email, live chat on the site, SMS, WhatsApp, and comments and direct messages on Instagram and Facebook all land in one queue. The company says it serves a large share of Shopify brands and supports BigCommerce, Magento and WooCommerce alongside it.

Key features
What separates it from a general-purpose ticketing tool.
- One inbox across email, chat, SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook
- Store actions inside the ticket: refunds, cancellations, order edits, discount codes
- An AI agent priced per resolved conversation, with brand voice and action guardrails
- Rules, macros and views for routing, auto-tagging and intent detection
- Revenue attribution linking conversations to the orders that followed them
- Voice and SMS as usage-priced add-ons rather than separate subscriptions
Who it's for
The natural buyer is a direct-to-consumer brand on Shopify with a support queue dominated by order questions and a team of two to fifteen agents. Because pricing follows tickets rather than seats, it also suits businesses with seasonal or outsourced support staff, where a per-agent model creates awkward decisions every November. Brands running subscriptions benefit more than most, since Recharge data appears in the ticket alongside the order.
It is a weak purchase for a business without a storefront, where the integration advantage disappears and a general help desk costs less. It is also risky for a store with very high volume and very low order value, because the ticket meter and the AI resolution fee both scale with contacts rather than revenue, and support-heavy categories can end up paying more per conversation than the conversation is worth.
How it compares
Zendesk is the enterprise reference: deeper reporting, better workflow configuration and far broader integrations, but it charges per agent, and its Shopify context is an app rather than a native surface. Intercom is stronger on proactive messaging and in-product support and its Fin agent is a genuine rival to Gorgias AI, though it is priced for SaaS companies rather than retailers. Re:amaze and Help Scout are cheaper and simpler, and both are reasonable if store actions inside the ticket are not the deciding factor. Against all of them, Gorgias wins on ecommerce specificity and loses on pricing predictability.

Verdict
Gorgias deserves its standing in ecommerce support because it removes the tab-switching that makes store support slow, and because the AI agent resolves a meaningful share of routine contacts without losing context on handover. Unlimited seats on ticket-based plans is genuinely friendlier than per-agent billing for teams that flex with the season. The caveat is the meter. Ticket overages and per-resolution AI fees mean the bill rises precisely when something has gone wrong operationally, and the double charge for an AI-handled conversation blunts the savings automation is supposed to deliver. Brands with steady volume and decent order values will find it worth the money; high-contact, low-margin catalogs should model the worst month before committing.
