Pros

  • Post-purchase offers are accepted in one click without re-entering payment details, so the original order is never at risk
  • Funnel editor is drag and drop, with rules that trigger different offers by product, cart value or customer tag
  • Built-in A/B testing compares offers and layouts on live traffic rather than requiring a separate testing tool
  • Rokt Thanks fills the confirmation page with vetted partner offers and pays the merchant per order
  • Rated 4.8 out of 5 across more than nine hundred Shopify App Store reviews, with a light page-weight footprint

Cons

  • Cart drawer, checkout and post-purchase are separate subscriptions, so covering the whole funnel means three monthly bills
  • In-checkout upsells are restricted to Shopify Plus, which puts the highest-value surface out of reach for most stores
  • Rokt Thanks monetises the confirmation page with third-party offers, trading some brand control for the payout

What AfterSell actually does

AfterSell works the three moments after a shopper has decided to buy. In the cart drawer it shows order bumps, a free-shipping progress bar and subscription upgrades. On the checkout page, for stores on Shopify Plus, it inserts upsell blocks, trust badges and urgency elements into the surface Shopify otherwise locks down. And immediately after payment it presents a post-purchase offer that can be accepted in one click, using the payment details already captured, so the original order is never reopened and never at risk of failing.

Since Rokt acquired the app, a fourth surface has been added: Rokt Thanks, which fills the order confirmation page with offers from other brands and pays the merchant for each order. That module is free, and reverses the economics, turning the confirmation page from a dead end into a revenue line. Around all of this sits a funnel editor with targeting rules, A/B testing on live traffic, and reporting that shows added revenue and the change in average order value. The app is Shopify-only, integrates with Klaviyo, Recharge, Skio, Yotpo and Nosto, and carries a 4.8 rating across more than nine hundred App Store reviews.

Key features

Each surface is configured independently, with shared targeting and reporting.

  • One-click post-purchase upsells and downsells that require no second payment step
  • Funnel builder with rules keyed to product, cart value, discount code or customer tag
  • Thank-you page editor with reorder, survey, review and support widgets
  • Cart drawer with progress bars, order bumps and subscription upgrade prompts
  • Checkout page customisation for Shopify Plus stores, including upsell blocks and trust elements
  • A/B testing plus reporting on incremental revenue, order value and acceptance rate

Who it's for

The economics favour stores with real order volume and a catalogue that supports a natural companion purchase: refills, accessories, larger sizes, a second flavour. At a few hundred orders a month, a modest lift in average order value covers the subscription several times over, and none of it requires more advertising spend. Brands already running subscriptions through Recharge or Skio get the clearest gains, because the post-purchase slot is an efficient place to convert a one-time buyer.

It is a poor fit for a store with low volume, where the fixed monthly cost outweighs the incremental revenue, and for single-product brands with nothing sensible to offer next. Merchants who guard the post-purchase experience closely should also think hard about Rokt Thanks, since the partner offers it displays are not the merchant's own.

How it compares

Zipify OneClickUpsell includes in-checkout upsells on its base plan and starts cheaper, which makes it the better value for a store that wants pre-purchase and post-purchase in one subscription. Upsell.com, formerly ReConvert, spans both sides of checkout in a single app but is shallower on each surface. Rebuy is the personalisation-led option, with recommendation logic that adapts to browsing behaviour, and prices well above AfterSell. The case for AfterSell is execution on the post-purchase page specifically, plus a light performance footprint and the Rokt monetisation nobody else offers.

Verdict

AfterSell does one job carefully, and the post-purchase upsell remains the least intrusive way to raise order value in ecommerce: the sale is banked, the offer costs nothing to display, and a rejection loses nothing. Testing is built in rather than bolted on, and the reporting attributes the incremental revenue honestly. The pricing structure is the part to scrutinise. Every surface is its own subscription and every plan is capped by monthly orders, so a store covering cart, checkout and post-purchase pays three times, and the checkout surface requires Shopify Plus. For a mid-volume store willing to start with post-purchase alone, it pays back quickly.
